about

Virginia Thorn is singer songwriter from South East London with Argentine roots. “Growing up records were among the most precious things in our home and dad played music all day. He grew up with the Second World War and collected hundreds of jazz albums: Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong and Glenn Miller. My mum played Astor Piazzolla & Carlos Gardel from her childhood in northern Argentina. Hearing that music was the thing that made me want to sing.”

In her late teens she discovered artists of the 1960's Folk Revival from America and Canada: Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. Drawing on the historic music and poetry of Traditional Folk and Blues they wrote songs which told stories, often over many verses. “Some of my best memories are walking aimlessly following those stories in my head.'

"My perfect backdrop to writing music is Autumn in nature anywhere. I find it deeply creative witnessing things passing away and renew. When I am songwriting I feel like I can plug into a sense of life moving and rest in it.”

How Shall We Say Goodbye? is her debut studio album. It was recorded live over two days with a Classical Pianist and French Horn Player.
