Virginia Thorn is a singer and composer influenced by story songs. One of her earliest passions were the 1960's folk revivals of Canada and the USA, which gave birth to artists such as Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell. She is inspired by the passion and vulnerability Martha Wainwright channels in her live performance and the gift Tom Waits has to weave a story through song that distils the longing of the human heart. When she writes a song, it starts with a feeling. An overwhelming emotion or sensation which begs to be expressed. She believes a song which we connect with can translate our individual feeling to the universal plain. Joy is amplified, sorrow is shared and this for her is the magic of writing and receiving music.
How Shall We Say Goodbye? is her debut studio album. It was recorded live in two days with classical musicians on piano and french horn, giving it an orchestral feel with folk roots.
